‘Tis the Season for Sly Horse Tavern in Crofton
April 10th, 2009 Categories: Restaurants
At the first sign of Spring, umbrellas go up in front of Sly Horse Tavern on the Village Green and diners settle in at tables on the brick-paved area in front for a good meal, cold drink and breath of clean fresh Spring air. Whether it’s lunch in the sun (or shade, depending on where you’re seated) or dinner under the stars, Sly Horse is a place that locals really enjoy dining.
The ambiance is what attracts me year ‘round – That’s where I get my “fireplace fix” in winter, now that I live in a home without a fireplace… and who doesn’t love the colonial Williamsburg-style interior… but dining outside on the Village Green is my favorite. Even when I opt for the relief of air conditioning on a blistering hot summer day, I enjoy a view of the Village Green through the window.
My personal preference would be for 21st century tavern standards - you know, Burgers and Reubens and the like, but I guess you can get that anywhere. Sly Horse Tavern features more elaborate menu selections such as “Veal Roulade Stuffed with Sweet Italian Sausage, Wild Mushrooms and Arugula, Finished with a Roasted Red Pepper Sauce” at $22.50. Even though that’s not my personal taste, their selections obviously appeal to a lot of other people because Sly Horse Tavern has been in business for over 20 years.
You will find Sly Horse Tavern at the Crofton Village Green surrounded by small businesses and professional offices, just inside the main gates of “Old Crofton” on Route 3. It’s a great place to book your next private party such as a rehearsal dinner or office celebration, and they offer a catering menu for off-premises events, as well. If you live or work anywhere in the Greater Crofton area and haven’t yet dined at the Sly Horse, I highly recommend it - especially on a beautiful Spring Day.
